Growing potatoes is great fun – and any hard work will keep you fit and healthy too!
There’s no great mystery to growing potatoes – even if you bury one in the ground in spring and forget about it, you’ll have a lovely crop in a few weeks.
Start with good seed potatoes – as usual our mantra is “quality in = quality out”. We believe that Scottish Certified Seed potatoes are hard to beat, and our potatoes come from East Lothian farms. And although I admit that we’re biased, we really don’t think you’ll get much better than these quality local potatoes!
Choose your potatoes for their growing period.
Choose your potatoes for their purpose.
With their light, fresh taste, early potatoes tend to be used for boiling or in salads. Main crop potato varieties are generally selected for being good bakers, for boiling or for making chips but if you can’t decide, simply choose a good all-rounder.
Potatoes can be grown in the open ground, in containers or even in a strong bag.
