Merryhatton Charity of the Year

As a local garden centre it is important for us to have an active role in the community, supporting local charities and community groups where we can. The main focus of our community support is through our Charity of the year Scheme. This allows us to focus all our fundraising efforts on one local charity year, making the support we can offer as effective as possible.

Thank you to everyone to applied for our Charity of the Year scheme for 2018.

We are delighted to announce Amisfield Walled Garden as our Charity of the Year 2018; we look forward to working with them throughout the year and fundraising for their wonderful organisation!

The Amisfield Walled Garden, an almost entirely volunteer run community garden, is just east of Haddington Golf Course and is open most days of the week to visitors, and members of the public.

The Amisfield Preservation Trust works to develop the walled garden for “the enjoyment and benefit of the public at large and, in particular, the health, well-being and education of the local community”.

We were delighted to work with SiMBA as our Charity of the Year 2017! We hope that by working with them we managed to help raise awareness of their valuable work within the local community and further afield. SiMBA is a charity that really touched the hearts of the team at Merryhatton, we were warmed and encouraged by the enthusiasm and hard work carried out by the team at SiMBA. It was great to work alongside a group that were so involved and supportive of our fundraising, joining us at events to help up spread awareness of the work SiMBA does.

Some information from SiMBA about what they do and how they help families suffering the devastating lost of a baby during pregnancy or the neonatal period;

SiMBA responds to the needs of those affected by the loss of a baby

By gifting our Memory Boxes and Haydon Kennan Foundation Clay Imprint Kits to hospitals across the UK we help to create irreplaceable memories of the time families have to spend with their baby

Working with the Lola Commons fund for SiMBA we create Family Rooms in hospitals providing a homely setting encouraging precious time together.

We Install Trees of Tranquillity, life sized copper sculptures where each leaf is engraved with a message to remember a baby, giving a peaceful place to reflect

Training hospital staff to enhance the bereavement services that are available

Holding monthly drop in support groups which anyone affected by the loss of a baby can attend, each run by volunteer facilitators trained by Child Bereavement UK

Offering on-line support via our closed facebook pages – people can chat in a safe environment at any time of day

We are a local charity, founded in Bonnyrigg, now working nationally. With the help and support of fundraisers, donators and companies we can continued to grow.
