Seasonal Tips

January
Lots to consider, there's time now to plan for the coming year. 
Think about the seeds you'll sow and start off your seed potatoes.
February
Colour for your garden now with spring/summer flowering pansies, spring bulbs in pots and primroses.
Shrubs of interest this month include Forsythias, Camellias and Magnolias for flower, willows for catkins and Cornus, Rubus etc for their interesting winter barks.
March
Step up a gear! Time to get the ground dug over, work in farmyard manure and so on – in other words, hard work month! Sow seeds and plant bulbs and tubers. An excellent time to plant shrubs, trees and hedges.
April
Sweet Peas now available. Hardier summer bedding and vegetable plants available towards the end of the month. Rhododendrons and Azaleas about to provide riotous colour. Take care though... there may still be some frost around.
May
Possibly the busiest month for gardeners. Most summer bedding available. Plant up hanging baskets and keep under cover until established.
June
Planted pots and hanging baskets can go out now – don't forget they need lots of water!
July
With all the hard work done, just make sure it's not spoilt by hungry slugs, greenfly or other bugs! We've lots of solutions – just ask for advice and we'll help you select the correct treatment.
August
Warm, damp conditions are ideal for mildew, rusts and other fungi. Don't let these diseases weaken your plants just before autumn!
September
Think ahead – it's time to choose your spring-flowering bulbs and plant any Hyacinths you want to flower for Christmas.
October
Another hard-work month! Pull out summer annuals, prune, get the ground ready for winter, plant spring flowering bulbs and winter pansies
November
Lift all those fallen leaves and do a last tidy-up before Christmas!
December
Don't forget to order your Christmas tree, and visit the Christmas Shop to give Santa your wish list!
