A month by month guide

 January

Lots to consider, there's time now to plan for the coming year.
Think about the seeds you'll sow and start off your seed potatoes.

 February

Colour for your garden now with spring/summer flowering pansies, spring bulbs in pots and  primroses.
Shrubs of interest this month include Forsythias, Camellias and Magnolias for flower, willows for catkins and Cornus, Rubus etc for their interesting winter barks.

 March

Step up a gear!  Time to get the ground dug over, work in farmyard manure and so on – in other words, hard work month!  Sow seeds and plant bulbs and tubers.
An excellent time to plant shrubs, trees and hedges.

 April

Sweet Peas now available. Hardier summer bedding and vegetable plants available towards the end of the month.  Rhododendrons and Azaleas about to provide riotous colour.  Take care though... there may still be some frost around.

 May

Possibly the busiest month for gardeners. Most summer bedding available.  Plant up hanging baskets and keep under cover until established.

 June

Planted pots and hanging baskets can go out now – don't forget they need lots of water!

 July

With all the hard work done, just make sure it's not spoilt by hungry slugs, greenfly or other bugs!  We've lots of solutions – just ask for advice and we'll help you select the correct treatment.

 August

Warm, damp conditions are ideal for mildew, rusts and other fungi.  Don't let these diseases weaken your plants just before autumn!

 September

Think ahead – it's time to choose your spring-flowering bulbs and plant any Hyacinths you want to flower for Christmas.

 October

Another hard-work month!  Pull out summer annuals, prune, work in some farmyard manure, plant spring flowering bulbs and plant winter pansies.

 November

Lift all those fallen leaves and do a last tidy-up before Christmas!

 December
