Our hardy alpine plants are grown outdoors in Cambridgeshire in climatic conditions that are very similar to East Lothian.
The Gedney family, who grow the alpines for us, have spent a lifetime building up their expertise in alpine species and we believe they grow some of the very best alpine plants available.
Our bedding growers are Scottish so the plants don’t travel far to get to our garden centre. Our growers use best quality seed and perfectly engineered compost, and once you plant our bedding into your container or garden, you can see for yourself the difference that quality makes.
There’s no doubt you can find cheaper bedding plants, but our recommendation is to consider the quality of the bedding and how the plants have been grown and cared for – that’s the difference you’ll see in your garden all season!
Whartons Nurseries supply our roses and we believe that it is difficult to beat the quality and selection of the roses they produce. As the UK’s largest rose grower, they are proud to boast that all their roses are grown in the UK.
Based in East Anglia, where there are similar climatic conditions to East Lothian, Whartons produce more than 1.45 million rose bushes each year. The Wharton family is justifiably proud of the quality of their stock and their prize-winning varieties, and we’re delighted to be able to offer such well-bred roses.
We draw our herbaceous plants from a number of reputable UK growers so we can bring you a diverse range of herbaceous varieties. As with all our plants, quality is the criteria for choosing our suppliers.
From March through to late summer we stock a selection of herbaceous plants in a variety of sizes so that customers can choose the level of maturity that suits them. Our staff are always happy to help you choose the varieties that are going to be the best for your garden.
Like the herbaceous plants, our shrubs are drawn from a number of UK suppliers We always source from Scottish growers where possible, and then choose growers depending on their specialism.
We select the varieties that, in our experience, we know are well-suited to the local area. Our plant area staff all live locally and understand the challenges gardeners face in this part of the world, so they’re always happy to discuss with customers the plants that are likely to give the best results.
Our fruit bushes are all UK grown and we offer the varieties that we know should produce the best results locally.
We offer a seasonal range of young vegetable plants that are mainly Scottish grown and ready for you to transplant into your vegetable plot. Our staff are always happy to advise you if you’ve never tried growing food before, and we have a range of growing guides available in-store or to download if you click here
